A high quality physical education programme, delivered in a safe and supportive environment, enables pupils to develop physical competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, games, gymnastics, swimming and water safety, athletics and outdoor adventure activities. Through enjoyable, purposeful experiences pupils develop positive attitudes including perseverance, fair play, sporting behaviour and the ability to cope with success and failure. PE also contributes to the development of a range of important cognitive skills such as decision making and analysis and social skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership. It promotes the understanding of the health benefits of lifelong participation in physical activity.
Sport Premium Funding
The Government is providing funding to support the delivery of PE and sport in primary schools through a new Sport Premium. Wilton Primary School is fully committed to utilising that funding to support these three key areas: improving the quality and breadth of physical education; healthy active lifestyles and competitive school sport.
